NARRATIVE STATEMENT OF OUTREACH
WRBZ, RALEIGH, N.C.: August 1, 2006-July
31, 2007
a) Establishment of an
internship program designed to assist members of the community to
acquire skills needed for broadcast employment:

The WRBZ Internship Program is an
on-going program divided into ten-week increments. The program includes
guidance and training with: learning station equipment and practices,
producing commercials, producing live programming, managing promotions,
overseeing remote broadcasts, researching sales information, researching
contests, covering press conferences and working with other media
outlets.
Prior to each 10-week training program,
WRBZ solicits qualified applicants for the position via communications
with various college departments, as well as the posting of the program
on the WRBZ website (www.850thebuzz.com).
b) Participation
in an educational institution program, relating to career opportunities
in broadcasting.

Promotions Director Mike Stangl spoke
with students at Green Hope High School during a sports related career
day on March 13, 2007. He spent time answering questions and sharing
information about radio and in particular, employment opportunities in
radio broadcasting.
General Manager Brian Maloney spoke with
students at Davis Drive Middle School at a career day held on April 12,
2007. He spent time explaining different careers that are available in radio, and answered
questions.
Show Host Joe Ovies participated in a
special panel on careers in Sports Journalism at St. Mary’s High School
in Raleigh on January 19th, 2007. The panel featured various
members of local media talking about their careers in sports journalism,
while Joe spoke about his career in radio broadcasting.
Sam Kelly, a student from Davis Drive
Middle School in Cary was hosted by General Manager Brian Maloney on
February 2, 2007 for a job shadow day. Sam spent three hours at the
station learning about each department from various radio personnel.
Report/review of the day was turned in to Edward Deadman, Career
Development Coordinator at Davis Drive Middle School.
c) Participation
in a job fair by station personnel empowered with substantial hiring
responsibilities.

National Sales Manager Tim Brady, and
Sales Manager Catherine Nye participated in the Field of Dreams Career
Expo 2006 held at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. They hosted a booth
at the job fair on August 28th, 2006, where they were able to
speak to job seekers, accept resumes, and answer questions pertaining to
jobs in the radio broadcasting industry.
Promotions Director Mike Stangl hosted a
booth at the NCCC Career Fair on
Wednesday, November 15, 2006. Mike
passed out information on careers in radio, and handed out applications
to interested students. Elon University and five other private colleges
in central North Carolina were all involved.
Promotions Director Mike Stangl
participated in the ENCCA Job Fair at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh on
Wednesday, February 28th, 2007. Mike hosted a booth and
disseminated radio job information to interested participants. Several
colleges were involved in the Job Fair, including Barton College,
Campbell University, Meredith College, Methodist College, Mt. Olive
College, NC Wesleyan College and Peace College.
d) Listing
upper level positions with groups having substantial women and minority
participation.
